As a nonprofit service corporation, our mission was clearly established at our inception.  That is, Delta Dental has an obligation to expand access to quality dental care for the citizens of our state. We do that primarily by offering low cost dental benefit programs to the businesses headquartered in our state. We also support a significant number of charitable oral health initiatives by awarding grants. We recognize these efforts as a key part of our mission, a mission we take very seriously.

Purpose

To promote the value of sound oral health for everyone by supporting initiatives focused on improving access to dental care and raising awareness of the importance of proper oral health.

We endeavor to:

Ensure that oral health is viewed as an important health concern.

  • Make prevention a priority.
  • Promote oral health education programs and activities that empower individual action.
  • Focus on underserved populations.
  • Support programs and research which advance the science of dentistry.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our efforts and share the results with the public.
  • Strike a balance between delivery of oral health services, education, and advocacy.
  • Support innovative, practical, sustainable solutions.

Guidelines

In considering grants, Delta Dental evaluates each application on its own merits. It considers the programs in which the organization is engaged, the constituencies it serves, the services it offers, its accountability and fund-raising practices, and the level of local community support it attracts.

Delta Dental gives primary consideration to supporting meritorious programs or activities for which other sources of funding are unavailable.

Grants are also made to specific projects and programs in elementary, middle, and high schools, and at individual colleges and universities.

For major donations, especially those in which funding is granted for two or more consecutive years, recipient organizations may be required to provide Delta Dental with annual progress reports describing the work they are doing and how Delta Dental's funds are being used.

Eligibility

To be eligible for funding consideration, an organization must be a:

Public charity with tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or

  • Public or governmental entity such as a school or health district, or
  • Tribal organization with 7871 tax-exempt status.

Organizations applying for a grant must have a physical presence in the state of Wisconsin. The project for which funds are requested must predominantly benefit people living in Wisconsin.

Limitations

Grants are not awarded for the following:

  • Individuals (except for individual recipients of the Delta Dental scholarship programs);
  • Organizations that discriminate by race, religion, color, creed, gender, age, or national origin, or any other legally protected characteristic;
  • Political organizations or campaigns;
