People: Delta Dental of Wisconsin's New President and CEO
Delta Dental of Wisconsin would like you to get to know our new president and CEO, Dennis Peterson. On April 14, 2016, Peterson, a 38-year company veteran, replaced Dennis Brown who retired after an impressive 43 years of service to the organization. According to Delta Dental of Wisconsin Chairman of the Board, Chuck Nason, “Den and Dennis have worked together and been involved in a number of key business decisions that have led to Delta Dental of Wisconsin becoming the state’s number one dental plan. We don’t expect anything to change other than Dennis Peterson bringing his personality and rekindling what we have done so well for the past few decades – adapting and innovating to best meet the needs of our customers.”
Here’s your chance to get to know our new CEO, Dennis Peterson, a little better.
What has it been like going through this transition to become CEO?
When I first started with Delta Dental 38 years ago, I never imagined the path would eventually take me to this point in my career. I am fortunate to step into the role as president and CEO with an organization that is well positioned for the future.
Tell us something we don’t know about you?
Most people probably wouldn’t know that I held a variety of positions during my time with the organization. When I first started, I was hired as the director of marketing and was the eleventh full-time employee. I spent most of my early years with DDWI in sales and marketing before being promoted to executive vice president in 1993.
What is your favorite WI sports team?
It depends on the season and the coach! I am more of a college sports fan with my favorite team being Badgers basketball. However, my wife Sharon and I are sports people. A lot of our spare time was spent playing sports as adults (basketball, softball, volleyball, golf) but more importantly, working with our kids and their friends as youth coaches. We must have coached 25 years between us, from flag football to soccer to basketball. We both enjoyed it immensely.
What do you like most about working at Delta Dental of Wisconsin?
There are so many great things! The people I work with, the programs we provide, the overall culture of our organization are just a few of the many great aspects of working at DDWI. I am proud of Delta Dental’s commitment to improving oral health through our unwavering support of programs that increase access to care. We have redefined what it means to be leaders in the dental insurance industry through our plan designs and support of dental research.
